莫泊桑项链英文读后感 篇一

"The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant is a thought-provoking short story that explores the themes of pride, social status, and the consequences of one's actions. The story follows the life of Mathilde Loisel, a middle-class woman who dreams of a life of luxury and wealth. However, her desire for material possessions leads her down a path of deception and ultimately results in her downfall.

One of the main themes in the story is the danger of pride and the importance of being content with what one has. Mathilde's obsession with her social status and appearance blinds her to the blessings in her life. She constantly yearns for more and believes that her happiness is dependent on material possessions. This theme serves as a cautionary tale, reminding readers of the importance of gratitude and humility.

Another theme explored in the story is the consequences of one's actions. Mathilde's decision to borrow a diamond necklace from her friend, Madame Forestier, sets in motion a chain of events that leads to her ultimate ruin. The necklace is lost, and Mathilde and her husband spend years working to repay the debt incurred by replacing it. This theme serves as a reminder that every action has consequences, and one must think carefully before making decisions that could have long-term repercussions.

Maupassant's writing style is precise and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the characters and their surroundings. The descriptions of Mathilde's transformation from a vibrant young woman to a weary, middle-aged woman are particularly poignant. The author's attention to detail allows readers to immerse themselves in the story and empathize with the characters' struggles.

Overall, "The Necklace" is a captivating short story that explores timeless themes and serves as a cautionary tale. It reminds readers of the importance of humility, contentment, and careful decision-making. Maupassant's skillful storytelling and vivid descriptions make for an engaging read that leaves a lasting impact.

莫泊桑项链英文读后感 篇二

"The Necklace" by Guy de Maupassant is a thought-provoking tale that delves into the consequences of greed and the pursuit of social status. The story follows the life of Mathilde Loisel, a woman who is dissatisfied with her middle-class existence and dreams of a life of luxury. However, her desire for material possessions leads her down a path of deception and ultimately results in her downfall.

One of the main themes in the story is the destructive nature of greed. Mathilde's relentless pursuit of wealth and social status blinds her to the blessings in her life. She believes that her happiness is dependent on material possessions and is willing to go to great lengths to acquire them. This theme serves as a cautionary tale, reminding readers of the dangers of excessive desire and the importance of finding contentment in what one already has.

Another theme explored in the story is the illusion of social status. Mathilde believes that her social standing is the key to happiness and is willing to sacrifice her integrity to maintain appearances. However, she soon realizes that the necklace she borrowed is a fake, rendering all her efforts meaningless. This theme serves as a reminder that true happiness cannot be found in external factors such as wealth or social status, but rather in the relationships and experiences that bring genuine joy.

Maupassant's writing style is captivating and engaging. His vivid descriptions of Mathilde's transformation from a vibrant young woman to a worn and weary individual draws readers into the story and allows them to empathize with her struggles. The author's attention to detail and use of irony add depth to the narrative, making it a compelling read.

Overall, "The Necklace" is a powerful story that explores the dangers of greed and the pursuit of social status. It serves as a reminder to appreciate what one has and to seek happiness in meaningful relationships rather than material possessions. Maupassant's skillful storytelling and insightful themes make "The Necklace" a timeless piece of literature that continues to resonate with readers.

The Necklace: Reflections and Confessions of Human’s Vanity

“What would have happened if she hadn’t lost that necklace? Who knows? Who knows? How strange and changeful is life! How small a thing is needed to make or ruin us!” This is what impressed me most in “The Necklace” written by Guy de Maupassant. I love the story not only due to the incredibly wonderful ending, but also because of the exquisite description of the weakness of humanity.

In his story, Guy de Maupassant creatively reveals Mathilde Loisel's dreams of a wealthy, splendid lifestyle. Mathilde's lifetime of misery and despair is solely caused by her own selfish acts. And her vain obsession all ended up ruining her life.

Vanity is defined as excessive pride, especially in your appearance. In Mathilde's case, the "excessive pride" in her looks and charm caused her to feel as if she deserved a higher ranking social class and the wealth. When she wore the necklace to the party, she wanted to give the illusion that she was something that she was not. Vanity caused Mathilde to fantasize about her life and surroundings-to live in a world of illusion, rather than reality.

Her life was affected in a negative way because of her obsession with vanity. It is so sad that she honestly felt successful the night of the dinner, just because of her looks and her surroundings. What a distorted view of true happiness and fulfillment! NEither an elegant dress or a beautiful piece of jewelry can make a person who they are. A caring and loving person has to be unselfish. Mathilde Loisel definitely lacked a caring and loving personality. The only person she proved to love was the person she wanted to be. Had Mathilde not spent so much of her life selfishly, she and Mr. Loisel could have had a lifetime of happiness. The most ironic and interesting piece of the story is the conclusion. Their lives were ruined for no reason. Had she told Mrs. Forrestier the truth about the lost necklace, she would have known that the necklace was just costume jewelry. Actually, it’s a tragedy made by herself, for she was conquered by the evil of her heart.

In pursuit of vanity may lead to the loss of ourselves. Accept who we are and to be to true to ourselves or else it will contribute to constant unhappiness. Happiness or misfortune, it all depends.

Guy de Maupassant was the child of an unhappy marriage. His mother has been dessccrriibbeedd as neurotic and his father as a man who sought relief from his wife in the arms of other women. Perhaps the collapse of his parents' marriage engendered de Maupassant's pessimism, reflected particularly in his stories about infidelity and failed relationships. It certainly influenced his own attitude toward women, which, in turn, affected his creation of characters in stories such as "The Necklace."

Events in History at the Time of the short story

The purpose of women. De Maupassant's attitude toward women was ambivalent. He was one of few ninetee

nth-century authors to recognize and celebrate women's sensuality rather than regard it as a sign of corruption. He was also, however, devastatingly cruel to women, ()whether in his own life or in his fiction. He recommended that the French Academy commission a treatise on how to "break decently, properly, politely, without noise, scene or violence, with a woman who adores you and with whom you are fed up" (de Maupassant in Steegmuller, p. 178)。 He scoffed at monogamy, insisting that he could not understand how two women could not be better than one, three better than two, and ten better than three.
