《雾都孤儿》英文读后感 篇一
After finishing reading "Oliver Twist", I couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the depth and complexity of the story. Written by Charles Dickens, this classic novel is a powerful portrayal of the harsh realities of life in 19th century London.
The story revolves around the life of Oliver Twist, an orphan who endures unimaginable hardships and cruelty from a young age. From the very beginning, Dickens paints a bleak and grim picture of the world that Oliver inhabits. The portrayal of the workhouse, where Oliver is born, is particularly haunting. The conditions are deplorable, and the treatment of the children is nothing short of inhumane. Through this, Dickens sheds light on the societal issues of poverty and inequality, forcing readers to confront the harsh realities faced by the less fortunate.
As the plot unfolds, Oliver finds himself thrown into a world of crime and corruption. The characters he encounters along the way are vividly portrayed, each with their own flaws and complexities. Fagin, the leader of a gang of child thieves, is a particularly memorable character. While he is undoubtedly a villain, Dickens also presents him with a certain degree of sympathy. Fagin's life of crime can be seen as a result of the harsh circumstances he faced as a child, highlighting the cycle of poverty and desperation that plagues the society in which Oliver lives.
One of the aspects that struck me the most about "Oliver Twist" is Dickens' ability to blend social commentary with a captivating narrative. Despite the heavy themes and bleak setting, the story is filled with moments of humor, warmth, and hope. Oliver, despite his circumstances, remains a symbol of innocence and purity. His unwavering goodness and resilience in the face of adversity is both inspiring and heartwrenching.
Furthermore, Dickens' use of language and descriptive imagery is masterful. His vivid descriptions of the streets of London and the characters that inhabit them transport the reader into the world of Oliver Twist. The language is rich and evocative, immersing the reader in the sights, sounds, and smells of 19th century London.
In conclusion, "Oliver Twist" is a timeless classic that continues to resonate with readers today. Its exploration of poverty, inequality, and the human spirit is both thought-provoking and deeply moving. Dickens' ability to create compelling characters and paint a vivid picture of the world they inhabit is truly remarkable. Reading "Oliver Twist" has not only given me a greater appreciation for the power of literature, but also a renewed sense of empathy and compassion for those less fortunate. This is a book that I will not soon forget.
《雾都孤儿》英文读后感 篇二
Upon finishing "Oliver Twist", I was left with a sense of wonder and admiration for Charles Dickens' masterful storytelling. This classic novel takes readers on a journey through the dark underbelly of 19th century London, providing a powerful commentary on social injustice and the resilience of the human spirit.
The protagonist, Oliver Twist, is a compelling character who captures the reader's heart from the very beginning. Born into poverty and orphaned at a young age, Oliver's journey is one of survival and self-discovery. Despite the hardships he faces, Oliver remains a symbol of hope and innocence, providing a stark contrast to the corruption and cruelty that surrounds him.
One of the most striking aspects of "Oliver Twist" is Dickens' ability to create vivid and memorable characters. From the lovable and kind-hearted Mr. Brownlow to the cunning and manipulative Fagin, each character is brought to life with their own unique personality and motivations. I found myself deeply invested in their stories, rooting for some and despising others.
Furthermore, Dickens' portrayal of the societal issues of his time is both insightful and thought-provoking. Through his vivid descriptions of the slums, workhouses, and criminal underworld, he exposes the harsh realities faced by the poor and marginalized. The stark contrast between the opulence of the upper classes and the destitution of the lower classes is a powerful indictment of the social inequality of the time.
In addition to its social commentary, "Oliver Twist" is also a gripping and suspenseful tale. The plot is filled with twists and turns, keeping the reader engaged and eager to discover what happens next. Dickens' use of foreshadowing and dramatic irony adds an extra layer of complexity to the story, making it all the more enjoyable to read.
Finally, I must commend Dickens' writing style. His prose is rich and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the world of Oliver Twist. From the bustling streets of London to the quiet countryside, Dickens' descriptions transport the reader to another time and place. His use of dialect and colloquial language also adds authenticity to the characters and enhances the overall reading experience.
In conclusion, "Oliver Twist" is a timeless classic that continues to captivate readers with its powerful storytelling and social commentary. Charles Dickens' ability to create memorable characters and paint a vivid picture of the world they inhabit is truly remarkable. Reading this novel has not only deepened my understanding of the social issues of the 19th century, but also reminded me of the enduring power of literature to inspire empathy and provoke thought. "Oliver Twist" is a must-read for anyone seeking a gripping and thought-provoking tale.
《雾都孤儿》英文读后感 篇三
How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodnecould conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodneis omnipotent yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.
For me the nature of goodneis one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodneis to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodneis an utterly worthleperson. On the contrary as the famous saying goes ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’ he who is with goodneundoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.
To my disappointment nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodnein humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness’ they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.
Francis Bacon said in his essay ‘Goodness of all virtues and dignities of the mind is the greatest being the character of the Deity and without it man is a busy mischievous wretched thing no better than a kind of vermin.’
《雾都孤儿》英文读后感 篇四
Oliver Twist is a novel written by Chales Dikens .It mainly describes a little boy's tough experiences .This novel reveals the author's attitude towards life in some point.
Oliver Twist was an orphan who was brought up by Shelia who lived in hospice. Oliver was regarded as a bastard, which resulted lots of discrimination.
In the foster home , he was on behalf of children to ask for more porridge ,which considered as a kind rude and unpolite behavior .He was confined for several days and came across another suffering.
Mr Bumble sent him to a coffin maker. In this plot ,I was attracted by the man Mr Noah who was also a servant .He played tricks on Oliver to grab some external fun .He deliberately said Oliver's mother was a bitch who had a child without marriage.
This kind of writing is advanced .It satirized the dark society .people's ignorance trapped kind people all the time .In contrast,Oliver , a naive boy who existed in a horrible environment ,always kept good honest.Although he knew nothing about his mother ,he persisted in beliving his mother's kindness.A little boy owned those good quality in dark society is doubted. But it reflects the author's opinion .Love makes the world go around. This topic was proved though the novel.
In an anthor plot ,Oliver entered a haunt of thieves by accident.A girl names Nacy rejected Mr Brownlow's help .She had no courage to leave the haunt where people had the same fate ,especially his beloved boy Sikes. In the end ,she was beaten to death .And this plot is the trasition .It hinted that bad people are destined to compensate. For Oliver's kindness ,he finally led a happy life with many kindhearted people's help.
This consequence accords with people's common criterion.Temporarily difficulities is not terrible as long as you reasonably deal with it.And success is on the way. What's more,we should always put love in the bottom of hearts.

《雾都孤儿》英文读后感 篇六
One of Dickens most enduringly popular stories is Oliver Twist, an early work published 1837-8. Like many of his later novels, its central theme is the hardship faced by the dispossessed and those of the outside of tolite society. Oliver himself is born in a workhouse and treated cruelly there as was the norm at the time for pauper children, in particular by Bumble, a parish council official or eadle The story follows Oliver as he escapes the workhouse and runs away to London.
Here he receives an education in villainy from the criminal gang of Fagin that includes the brutal thief Bill Sikes, the famous artful Dodger and Nancy, Bill whore. Oliver is rescued by the intervention of a benefactor - Mr Brownlow - but the mysterious Monks gets the gang to kidnap the boy again. Nancy intervenes but is murdered viciously by Sikes after she has showed some redeeming qualities and has discovered Monk sinister intention.
The story closes happily and with justice for Bumble and the cruel Monks who has hidden the truth of Oliver parentage out of malice. Accusations were made that the book glamorised crime (like the ewgate Group of the period) but Dickens wisely disassociated himself from criminal romances. His achievement was in fact in presenting the underworld and problems of poverty to the well-off in a way rarely attempted previously.
