The Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month when the moon is believed to be the fullest and brightest. This year, the festival will be celebrated on October 1st.
There are various legends and customs associated with the Mid-Autumn Festival. One popular legend is the story of Chang'e, the Moon Goddess. According to the legend, Chang'e swallowed an elixir of immortality and flew to the moon, where she has lived ever since. On this day, people worship the Moon Goddess and offer sacrifices to her. They also believe that the moon is at its brightest and most beautiful during this time, so they gather with their families and friends to appreciate the moon and enjoy mooncakes.
Mooncakes are the traditional food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. These round pastries symbolize reunion and are often filled with lotus seed paste, red bean paste, or salted egg yolks. They are usually enjoyed with a cup of tea or a glass of hot water. Apart from mooncakes, people also eat pomelos, a type of citrus fruit that represents good luck and abundance.
In addition to moon gazing and eating mooncakes, there are other activities enjoyed during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Many families will have a big dinner together, where they feast on various delicious dishes and share stories. Lanterns are also an important part of the festival. Children often carry lanterns of various shapes and sizes, lighting up the night sky and adding to the festive atmosphere.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a time for family reunion but also a time for expressing gratitude and appreciation. It is a time to cherish the moments spent with loved ones and to reflect on the beauty of nature. Although the festival has evolved and changed over time, its essence remains the same – the celebration of unity, love, and harmony.

The Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival that is celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. This year, the festival falls on June 14th. The festival is named after the dragon boat races that take place during this time.
One of the most famous legends associated with the Dragon Boat Festival is the story of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet from ancient China. Qu Yuan was a minister who served the state of Chu during the Warring States period. When his state was conquered by a rival state, he was exiled and eventually drowned himself in the Miluo River. The local people admired Qu Yuan and tried to save him by rowing their boats and throwing rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fish from eating his body. This is said to be the origin of the dragon boat races and the tradition of eating zongzi, a sticky rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves.
Dragon boat races are the highlight of the Dragon Boat Festival. These races involve teams of rowers paddling in sync to the beat of a drum, while a dragon-shaped boat glides through the water. The races are not only a thrilling spectacle but also a way to pay homage to Qu Yuan and to promote teamwork and cooperation.
Besides dragon boat races, another important custom of the Dragon Boat Festival is eating zongzi. These pyramid-shaped dumplings are made by wrapping glutinous rice around various fillings, such as meats, beans, and nuts. They are then steamed or boiled before being enjoyed. Eating zongzi is believed to bring good luck and protect against evil spirits.
The Dragon Boat Festival is also associated with other customs and traditions. People often hang up pouches of herbs and plants, such as mugwort and calamus, to ward off evil spirits. They also wear colorful silk threads to protect themselves from evil. In some regions, people make and wear medicinal sachets, known as xiangbao, to keep away evil spirits and bring good health.
The Dragon Boat Festival is not only a time for excitement and delicious food but also a time for reflection and remembrance. It is a time to honor the ancient traditions and legends that have been passed down through generations. It is a time to celebrate the spirit of unity, bravery, and patriotism that is deeply rooted in Chinese culture.

Last Qingming Festival,I return home to worship my grandfather.Qingming Festival is a folk Festival. In the past,In the past, the Qingming Festival was called "Arbor Day". But Today, Chinese visit their family graves to tend to any underbrush that has grown. Weeds are pulled, and dirt swept away, and the family will set out offerings of food and spirit money. Unlike the sacrifices at a family's home altar, the offerings at the tomb usually consist of dry, bland food. One theory is that since any number of ghosts rome around a grave area, the less appealing food will be consumed by the ancestors, and not be plundered by strangers.
With the passing of time, this celebration of life became a day to the honor past ancestors. Following folk religion, the Chinese believed that the spirits of deceased ancestors looked after the family. Sacrifices of food and spirit money could keep them happy, and the family would prosper through good harvests and more children.
