复活节的英文资料 篇一

Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It is considered the most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church. The word "Easter" itself comes from the Old English word "ēastre" or "ēostre," which was the name of a pagan spring goddess. Over time, the celebration of Easter became intertwined with the Christian belief in the resurrection of Jesus.

The exact date of Easter varies each year, as it is based on the lunar calendar. It is generally observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox, which usually falls between March 22nd and April 25th. Easter Sunday marks the end of the period of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance in preparation for Easter.

In many Christian traditions, Easter is preceded by Holy Week, which commemorates the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. This includes Palm Sunday, when Jesus entered Jerusalem and was hailed as a king, Maundy Thursday, when Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples, and Good Friday, when Jesus was crucified. The week concludes with Easter Sunday, which celebrates Jesus' resurrection and victory over death.

Easter is celebrated in various ways around the world. In many countries, it is a time for attending church services, participating in religious processions, and spending time with family. One of the most popular traditions is the Easter egg hunt, where children search for hidden eggs filled with candy or small toys. Easter eggs are also often dyed and decorated, symbolizing new life and rebirth. Another common tradition is the Easter Bunny, who is said to bring baskets of eggs to children.

Moreover, Easter has cultural and secular elements as well. In addition to its religious significance, it is also a time for spring celebrations and the arrival of warmer weather in the Northern Hemisphere. Many people take advantage of the long weekend to go on vacations or visit family and friends. In some countries, there are additional customs and festivities, such as parades, bonfires, and fireworks.

Overall, Easter is a holiday that holds great significance for Christians worldwide. It is a time to rejoice in the resurrection of Jesus and reflect on the hope and new life that it brings. Whether through religious observances or cultural traditions, Easter is a time for celebration and renewal.

复活节的英文资料 篇二

Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is an important holiday celebrated by Christians around the world. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, which is considered the central event of the Christian faith. The word "Easter" itself is believed to have originated from the Old English word "ēastre" or "ēostre," named after a pagan goddess associated with spring.

The exact origins of Easter are not entirely clear, as it has both Christian and pagan influences. In the early Christian Church, Easter was observed as a way to commemorate Jesus' resurrection and his victory over sin and death. It was seen as a time of joy and hope, symbolizing new life and rebirth. Over time, the celebration of Easter became associated with various symbols and traditions.

One of the most recognizable symbols of Easter is the Easter egg. Eggs have long been seen as a symbol of fertility and new life in many cultures. In ancient times, eggs were often dyed and exchanged as gifts during the spring season. The tradition of decorating eggs for Easter continues to this day, with various techniques and designs used around the world.

Another popular symbol is the Easter Bunny. The origins of the Easter Bunny can be traced back to German folklore, where it was believed that a hare would lay eggs and bring them to children as gifts. This tradition was brought to America by German immigrants in the 18th century and has since become a beloved part of Easter celebrations, especially for children who eagerly await the arrival of the Easter Bunny and the hidden eggs.

In addition to these symbols, there are various customs and traditions associated with Easter in different countries. In Greece, for example, the Holy Fire is brought from Jerusalem to light the candles of the faithful. In Spain, elaborate processions known as "Semana Santa" are held, featuring statues depicting the Passion of Christ. In Poland and other Eastern European countries, Easter Monday is celebrated with a tradition called "?migus-Dyngus," where people playfully splash water on each other.

Overall, Easter is a holiday that holds deep religious significance for Christians, while also incorporating elements of ancient traditions and cultural practices. It is a time for reflection, joy, and celebration, as Christians commemorate the resurrection of Jesus and the hope it brings. Whether through attending church services, participating in egg hunts, or enjoying time with family and friends, Easter is a time to come together and embrace the message of new life and renewal.

复活节的英文资料 篇三

复活节的英文资料

Easter is a convergence of three traditions. Pagan, Hebrew and Christian. Although the observance of Easter was at a very early period in the practice of the Christian church, a serious difference as to the day for its observance soon arose between the Christians of Jewish, and those of Gentile descent, which led to a long and bitter controversy.

  Pagan Origins

The Pagan origins of the holiday according to a Venerable Bede, English historian of the early 8th century, the name Easter, like the name of the days of the week, is a survival from the old Teutonic mythology. According to Bede it is derived from the No rse Ostara or Eostre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring, to whom the month of April, and called Eostur-monath, was dedicated. The Greek myth, Demeter and Persephone, with its Latin counterpart, Ceres and Per sephone, conveys the idea of a goddess returning seasonally from the nether regions to the light of day. This is in conjunction with the festival of spring, or vernal equinox, March 21, when nature is in resurrection after winter.

The origin of the rabbit icon, or Easter Bunny, comes from the fact that rabbits are notable for their capacity of abundant production of young especially at this time of year. The use of Easter eggs, has its roots in the characteristic of eggs laid in great numbers in the spring being colored like rays of the returning sun and the northern lights or aurora borealis. There is also a long tradition of decorating Easter eggs and giving them at Easter. See The History of Easter Eggs for more information about this tradition.

  Hebrew Origins

The month (April), Bede says, was the same as the mensis paschalis, "when the old festival was observed with the gladness of a new solemnity" The root pasch, from which so many other names for Easter are derived, is from the Hebr ew pesach (Passover) from the verb form "he passed over." In Exodus XII we read of the night in Egypt when the angel of death "passed over" the dwellings of the Israelites, so sparing their first-born. Hence, the Passover or Jewish Pesac h, celebrated during Nisan, the first month of the Hebrew year.

  Christian Origins

It was at the feast of the Passover in Jerusalem that Jesus, a Jew, was crucified and rose from the dead. A name for Easter, therefore, is Pasch, in various spellings, and churches throughout the East and West celebrate Easter as a major feast ranking wi th Christmas, witness the "hot cross bun" or boon distributed among the faithful.
