我的外公叫黄庆义，祖籍安徽阜阳，生于1945年12月末。他是一个酷爱学习、孝顺、独立能干的人。
我的外公在上小学时，连续几年都在闹灾荒，粮食减产严重，普通人家都只能吃野菜、观音土，啃树皮度日，常常是吃了上顿没下顿。我的外公说：“那个时候是真的苦啊，每天都是忍饥挨饿。”因此我外公的父母先后都饿死了，只留下我外公和年幼的弟弟。有一次我外公在学校饿的不行，班主任看见后送给我外公一个馍馍，我外公舍不得吃，只吃了一半想留一半给家里的弟弟吃，就偷偷的溜到学校外的墙角把馍馍埋进土里，可等放学后外公来墙角找时，馍馍不翼而飞了，我外公大哭一场，当我外公回到家时，发现弟弟已经饿死了。从此以后，外公便开始自己照顾自己。我听着都觉得无法承受如此大的打击。
后来，饥荒过去了，我的外公升入了中学。因为父母双亡，他只能边打工边读书。据他自己的回忆，他那时候每天早晨天不亮就起床，自己洗漱完毕后，就跑到早摊铺帮别人卖油条，这经常一站就是两个小时，且无论刮风下雨，都雷打不动。但就是这样辛苦了一个学期也只能挣一点点钱，常常饥一顿饱一顿的。他在中学期间，我外公刻苦学习，成绩尤为突出，次次考试都名列前茅，也是老师的好助手，时常帮老师批改试卷。因为成绩优异学校还减免了他的学费，就这样我外公才能顺利的读书。
日复一日，年复一年，一晃六年过去了，我外公参加高考，成绩相当优异，全国任何大学都可以报考。但由于外公有一个大爷在上海，去上海读书有人照应，会相对轻松一些，而且他也深受学校教导主任的影响，教导主任帮他选择了同济大学的土木工程系。听到这里，我越发敬佩我的外公，敬佩他的自律与独立。
在大学期间，外公仍旧对自己没有丝毫的放松，反而更加严格。每天都在刻苦的学习，每个学期都能拿到奖学金。
大学毕业后，由于外公成绩过于优秀，免去了实习期，直接分配到上饶建筑段，在技术科担任技术员负责设计图纸，在此期间和同事一起参与设计还获得了许多荣誉，由于工作出色被提升为段长，负责上饶党校的建造，并且作为总工程师设计了党校大楼。几年后，外公被调到南昌铁路局房建处，当上了处长，在此期间参与设计了铁路九村。由此，我的外公真是一个工作能力出色的人。
外公十分热爱他的工作，每天都工作得比别人久，常常是等人都走光了才会离开工作岗位，逢年过节也不例外。
我的外公是十分孝顺的人，在他与外婆结婚后，十分照顾我的曾祖母，我的曾祖母卧病在床十年，在她卧病在床时为她擦背洗脸，喂水喂饭，不辞辛劳，而且也在我曾祖父去世后，为他风风光光地办了一场葬礼，忙前忙后，十分劳累，却任劳任怨。而且外公每个周末还会给曾祖父曾祖母做煤饼，从未落下一次。
如今，我的外公早已退休，但他的一生却令我动容，让我感受到我有一个独立、能干、孝顺和热爱工作及学习的好外公。
