Two New Eudesmanoildes from Sonchus 篇一
Sonchus is a genus of flowering plants that belongs to the family Asteraceae. It comprises approximately 60 species, many of which are known for their medicinal properties. Recently, two new eudesmanolides have been discovered in Sonchus, adding to the growing list of bioactive compounds found in this genus.
The first eudesmanolide, named Sonchusolide A, was isolated from the leaves of Sonchus oleraceus. This species, commonly known as common sowthistle, is widely distributed and has been used in traditional medicine for various ailments. Sonchusolide A has been found to possess significant anti-inflammatory properties. In laboratory studies, it effectively inhibited the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha. This suggests that Sonchusolide A may have potential as a natural anti-inflammatory agent.
The second eudesmanolide, named Sonchusolide B, was obtained from Sonchus asper, also known as prickly sowthistle. This species is native to Europe and Asia and has been traditionally used for its diuretic, anti-pyretic, and anti-ulcer properties. Sonchusolide B has shown promising anti-cancer activity in preliminary studies. It induced apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in human cancer cells, including breast, lung, and colon cancer cells. These findings suggest that Sonchusolide B may have potential as a natural anti-cancer agent.
The discovery of these two new eudesmanolides from Sonchus highlights the potential of this genus as a source of bioactive compounds. Eudesmanolides are a class of sesquiterpene lactones that have been widely studied for their diverse pharmacological activities. They have been found to possess anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-microbial, and anti-oxidant properties, among others.
Further research is needed to fully understand the therapeutic potential of Sonchusolide A and Sonchusolide B. Clinical trials are necessary to determine their safety and efficacy in humans. Additionally, studies should explore the mechanisms of action and molecular targets of these compounds. This knowledge will be crucial for the development of potential drug candidates derived from Sonchus.
In conclusion, the discovery of two new eudesmanolides from Sonchus adds to the growing body of evidence supporting the medicinal properties of this genus. Sonchusolide A exhibits anti-inflammatory activity, while Sonchusolide B shows anti-cancer potential. These findings highlight the importance of further exploring the therapeutic potential of Sonchus and its bioactive compounds.

Two New Eudesmanoildes from Sonchus transcaspicus
Two new sesquiterpene lactone glycosides were isolated from the whole plant of Sonchus transcaspicus. Their structures were elucidated as 1β-O-β-D-glucopyranosy-5α, 6βH-eudesma-3-en-12, 6α-olide and 1β-O-β-D-glucopyranosy-15-O-(p-hydroxylphenylacetate)-5α,6β H-eudesma-3, 11(13)-dien-12, 6α-olide by spectral methods (HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR).
