My Pen Pal
I have always been a fan of writing letters. There is something magical about putting pen to paper and expressing one's thoughts and feelings. So, when I heard about the opportunity to have a pen pal, I jumped at the chance.
My pen pal's name is Emily. She lives in the United States and is also in middle school, just like me. We were paired up through a pen pal exchange program organized by our schools. I was excited to connect with someone from a different country and learn about their culture and way of life.
Our first exchange of letters was nerve-wracking, but also thrilling. Emily wrote about her hobbies, her favorite subjects in school, and her family. She asked me questions about my life in China, my favorite foods, and what I liked to do in my free time. I responded with equal enthusiasm, sharing details about my daily routine, my friends, and my dreams for the future.
As the letters continued to flow back and forth, Emily and I discovered that we had a lot in common. We both loved reading books, playing sports, and exploring nature. We also had a shared interest in learning about different cultures and languages. It was fascinating to exchange stories and ideas with someone who lived thousands of miles away.
Over time, Emily and I became more than just pen pals. We became friends. We started sending each other small gifts and trinkets, like bookmarks and keychains, to remind us of our friendship. We even exchanged photos of our families and our cities, giving each other a glimpse into our respective worlds.
Although we have never met in person, Emily and I have formed a bond that transcends distance and borders. We continue to write letters to each other, sharing our triumphs and challenges, and offering support and encouragement. Having a pen pal has not only improved my English writing skills but has also broadened my perspective and taught me the value of friendship.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have a pen pal like Emily. She has taught me that friendships can be formed in the most unexpected ways and that connecting with someone from a different culture can be a truly enriching experience. I look forward to continuing my correspondence with Emily and hopefully, one day, meeting her in person.

Exploring Cultural Differences Through Pen Pals
Having a pen pal has been an eye-opening experience for me. It has allowed me to explore different cultures and gain a deeper understanding of the world beyond my own borders.
My pen pal's name is Li Wei. She lives in China and is also in middle school. We were paired up as pen pals through a cultural exchange program at our schools. From the moment we started exchanging letters, I knew that this would be a unique and enriching experience.
Through our letters, Li Wei and I have been able to learn about each other's customs, traditions, and way of life. She has shared fascinating stories about Chinese festivals, such as the Lunar New Year and the Dragon Boat Festival. I, in turn, have introduced her to Western holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving.
One of the most interesting aspects of our correspondence has been discovering the differences in our daily routines. Li Wei has described her school schedule, which starts early in the morning and includes rigorous academic subjects like math and science. In contrast, I have shared details about my school day, which includes a variety of elective classes and extracurricular activities.
Language has sometimes been a barrier in our communication, but it has also been an opportunity for growth. Li Wei and I have been able to help each other improve our respective language skills. We correct each other's grammar and vocabulary mistakes, and through this process, we have both become more confident in our English and Chinese writing abilities.
Beyond language and cultural differences, Li Wei and I have discovered that we have many common interests. We both enjoy playing the piano and have exchanged recordings of our performances. We have also shared our love for reading and have recommended books to each other.
Having a pen pal like Li Wei has made me realize the importance of embracing diversity and seeking to understand others who may be different from us. It has taught me that despite our different backgrounds, we are all connected as human beings.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have a pen pal like Li Wei. Through our letters, I have gained a new perspective on the world and have developed a lifelong friendship. I hope that more students will have the chance to participate in pen pal programs and experience the joy of exploring different cultures through the power of the written word.

Since last summer, I have written to my pen pal, Seda, who lives in Turkey. I became acquainted with her when I went to England for a study tour. We stayed
with the same family, and she was my roommate and classmate as well. Sometimes we went to the movies together after dinner. Seda is very easy to get along with. I will always remember the two weeks I spent with her. We didn‘t forget each other and kept writing to each other after we returned home. Although I haven‘t seen her again since I left England, I still know how she is through letters, cards and photographs. Seda tells me her secrets and also shares her happiness and sadness with me . Both of us hope that we will meet each other somewhere one day. Maybe I‘ll go to Turkey to visit her, or she‘ll come to Taiwan to visit me
